Pittsburg State University keeps authentication available across 2 data centers with Total Uptime

Pittsburg State University, a public university in Kansas, needed a disaster recovery solution for its critical authentication infrastructure. Located in "Tornado Alley," the university faced the risk of severe weather disrupting power and communications, which would make its cloud-based services and campus technology unavailable. To address this challenge, Pittsburg State worked with vendor Total Uptime to implement a solution using their Cloud Load Balancing service.

Total Uptime's solution provided automated failover and load balancing for the university's geographically redundant ADFS servers, which were distributed between its own campus and a sister university's data center. This ensured authentication services remained available even if the main campus went offline. The results were a highly available, distributed, and redundant system that met the university's disaster recovery requirements in a simple and cost-effective manner.
