Fieldale Farms cuts handling by 24% with Tosca RPCs

Fieldale Farms, a specialty poultry producer, sought to extend the sustainability and efficiency benefits of reusable packaging beyond its own facilities to its retail supply chain. Their challenge was to find a cost-neutral, sustainable solution to transport their premium Springer Mountain Farms chicken to grocery customers while eliminating single-use corrugated waste. They partnered with vendor Tosca for a pooled reusable plastic container (RPC) service.

The solution implemented by Tosca provided ready-to-use, cleaned RPCs that protected product better and streamlined handling. By using Tosca RPCs, Fieldale significantly reduced labor and environmental impact. Results include an estimated 24% reduction in boxes handled at customer distribution centers and the elimination of over 1.5 pounds of corrugated per RPC use. Furthermore, a lifecycle analysis estimated over an 80% greenhouse gas reduction and savings of over 143 million gallons of water in one supply chain over ten years, demonstrating substantial measurable impact.
