PennyMac builds an effective leadership bench with Torch

PennyMac Loan Services, LLC, a top-three U.S. residential mortgage lender that grew from about 2,500 to over 5,000 employees during the COVID-19 pandemic, needed to build an effective leadership bench quickly. After finding a traditional mentoring provider insufficient, PennyMac adopted Torch.io’s customizable mentorship platform to get a more user-friendly mentor–mentee matching experience and to deliver tailored learning paths with video and native content.

Using Torch.io, PennyMac launched structured mentoring cohorts with four learning paths (leadership development, networking/personal branding, custom, and ongoing), mentor recommendations with administrator-finalized matches, and progress surveys at months three and five. PennyMac reports the program has helped identify high-potential employees, increase mentee competence and confidence, inform retention efforts, and enable plans to scale mentoring into departments—measured through survey responses and improved engagement that support reduced turnover and promotion readiness.
