How Calm Achieved Better Production Stability with EKS on AWS

Calm was running a self-managed Kubernetes environment when a major outage caused by etcd corruption in the control plane took its system down. To help address the shortage of in-house expertise, Calm brought in Christopher Stobie, a senior engineer through Toptal’s AWS DevOps practice, to stabilize its infrastructure.

Toptal helped Calm rebuild on a fully automated AWS-managed cluster using EKS, with the networking layer implemented as code in Terraform. The migration restored full functionality in about three days and significantly improved production stability by replacing the fragile self-managed setup with a more reliable managed solution.
