The customer, Bombardier Transportation, faced challenges with inefficient tool management and long NC programming and machine running-in times at its Netphen manufacturing site. This was impacting productivity for machining rail vehicle components. To address this, the company sought a modern 3D-CAM system and integrated tool management, selecting vendor TopSolid's TopSolid'Cam software.

The solution implemented by TopSolid, with assistance from partner Moldtech, was the integration of TopSolid'Cam with Zoller's Tool Management Solutions. This provided a single database for real tool data, which was directly accessible during CAM programming. The results were highly successful, reducing NC program running-in times by up to 50% and cutting machine changeover times nearly in half. Additionally, tool costs were projected to be reduced by 25%, and the reliability of NC programs was greatly improved, leading to significantly higher productivity.
