Aleit GmbH, a precision tool manufacturer, faced the challenge of programming increasingly complex multitasking mill-turn machines while needing to drastically reduce setup and running-in times to maintain profitability. To manage this complexity and exploit their high-end machines' full potential, they required an integrated CAD/CAM solution capable of reliable simulation to prevent collisions. This led them to implement the TopSolid software from Missler Software.

TopSolid provided a fully integrated CAD/CAM solution, which allowed Aleit's programmers to design tools and simulate the entire machining process in a virtual environment, identifying potential collisions beforehand. The vendor, TopSolid, also provided customized postprocessors for their specific machines. The results included a significant reduction in setup times, with some tools now being set up completely in a single day versus multiple days previously. This increased efficiency allowed the company to divert time savings from the shop floor to the technical office, and collisions became extremely rare due to the reliable simulation.
