A Topgrading Case Study
TEKMORE, a $750 million high-tech manufacturing division of Acmetech with 1,000 employees, faced a major leadership and performance challenge after combining its own business with seven acquired tech companies across Europe and Asia. Morale was low, managers were complacent, and CEO expectations were high: improve profits fast, globalize the company, and drive growth despite a weak tech market. Topgrading was brought in to help build a stronger leadership team.
Topgrading helped TEKMORE create an A Team by assessing and coaching 20 senior managers, training leaders in Topgrading practices, and using rigorous evaluation and “second opinion” interviews for replacements. About half of the managers improved and showed A Potential, while the others moved on and were replaced with higher-caliber candidates. With Topgrading, operating profit tripled over two years, 95% of internal promotions were A Players, and 97% of external hires were A Players.
