A Topgrading Case Study
Santa Teresa 1796, a rum manufacturer with about 400 employees, was operating in a difficult environment in Venezuela marked by crime, corruption, and social deterioration. The company needed a better way to hire and build a stronger workforce, and it turned to Topgrading to improve talent quality and management performance.
Topgrading was implemented as a hiring and talent management approach, with the company also relying heavily on its A-player network for recruitment. As a result, the share of hires who were A Players rose from 25% to 74% overall, Topgrading success in management positions reached 76%, and 90% of hires came from the A-player network. Santa Teresa 1796 also reported business gains, including operating margins improving from 12% to above the 17% industry standard, along with broader social impact and recognition as one of the best places to work in Venezuela and Latin America.
