West Virginia University saves 2-3 hours of grading with Top Hat

West Virginia University chemistry professor Joshua Osbourn faced a challenge with student preparedness. His solution of regular paper quizzes was unsustainable, consuming hours of grading time and resources. To create accountability efficiently, he turned to the vendor Top Hat, specifically using the Top Hat Test and Top Hat Classroom products.

The solution involved using Top Hat Test for auto-graded unit quizzes and Top Hat Classroom for real-time formative questions. This implementation by Top Hat eliminated the professor's grading time for these quizzes, provided students with instantaneous results, and increased engagement. Notably, the time spent grading routine quizzes dropped from 2-3 hours to zero, and no instances of cheating were detected on the in-class quizzes administered through the platform.
