A Top Hat Case Study
Christina Alevras, a biology instructor at the University of Saint Joseph, needed a better way to engage students in her Anatomy and Physiology course and track whether they were actually understanding the material. Her traditional textbook and lab manual were costly, and her LMS alone could not provide insight into student progress or comprehension. Top Hat, used with an interactive textbook, gave her a more effective teaching and learning experience.
With Top Hat, Alevras adopted an interactive Anatomy and Physiology textbook and lab manual, plus pre-built slides, assignments, and weekly course reporting to monitor student work and identify where they struggled. The platform also supported remote and self-paced learning during COVID-19, including offline access from any device. Results included 120 interactive questions tracked, $145 saved per student on course materials per semester, and a more engaged class that began asking deeper, more critical questions.
