A Top Hat Case Study
The University of Florida, where associate professor Jamie Pomeranz teaches Ethical and Legal Issues in Public Health, needed a better way to engage students in a fast-changing subject and encourage participation in difficult class discussions. Traditional textbooks couldn’t keep up with evolving laws, perspectives, and news, so Pomeranz turned to Top Hat’s Classroom and Textbook products to create a more dynamic learning experience.
Using Top Hat, Pomeranz built a customized course pack that could be updated in real time and centralized all course materials in one place. He also used anonymous discussion tools and polling to spark debate and gauge understanding. The results were strong: 83% of students said Top Hat encouraged them to participate more, 67% said it improved their understanding through interactivity, and 63% rated it as the best digital course resource they had used.
