University of Fiji boosts attendance 12% with Top Hat

The University of Fiji, a higher education institution, faced a significant threat to its revenue and educational quality when the COVID-19 pandemic forced a sudden shift to remote learning. Their challenge was to maintain interactive, quality education and student engagement to prevent dropouts, moving beyond simple recorded lectures. To address this, Vice Chancellor Dr. Shaista Shameem turned to the vendor Top Hat for its interactive teaching and learning platform.

Top Hat implemented a site-wide licensing agreement to provide universal access for all students and faculty. The solution included comprehensive training for instructors and the use of Top Hat's tools for tracking attendance, participation, and delivering virtual science labs. This resulted in a 12% increase in student attendance and allowed the university to retain vital international students. Top Hat also provided the data and analytics necessary for the university to measure student success and demonstrate its effectiveness to government grant bodies.
