Texas Tech University saves $275K with Top Hat eText

Texas Tech University, a public research university, faced the challenge of preparing its business students with practical workforce skills like public speaking and interview preparation. Their existing static textbook prioritized theory over practice, creating a gap between student readiness and employer needs. Assistant Professor Corey Clem partnered with vendor Top Hat to create a custom interactive eText to address this.

Top Hat's solution was a collaboratively authored, customizable eText featuring multimedia, simulations, and real-world case studies. This allowed students to learn from applicable examples at a reduced cost. The results showed students felt more prepared for the workforce, and the implementation saved over 2,300 students more than $275,000 across three years. Top Hat also provided real-time data to track student engagement and performance.
