Auburn University saves students $150 and boosts grades with Top Hat

Auburn University professor Lindsay Tan sought to address equity gaps in her interior design course, a discipline historically lacking diversity. Her challenge was to create a more inclusive learning experience and remove barriers for students from varied backgrounds. To achieve this, she turned to the vendor Top Hat and began using its interactive platform and customizable textbook service.

Using Top Hat, Professor Tan authored her own digital textbook that put diverse representation at the forefront. This solution saved students $150 on textbook costs and provided an equitable, interactive learning experience. The results were significant, with average class grades improving from Cs to Bs. Top Hat also served as a lifeline during the pandemic, allowing students to use financial aid for the material and helping to dramatically boost student engagement and comprehension.
