Boise - Customer Case Study

Boise, a long-standing forest products company now part of Packaging Corporation of America, faced the challenge of managing inventory across a long, rail-dependent supply chain where average transit exceeds two weeks and much product can be tied up in rail cars. To meet an objective of reducing stock by 10% while improving on-time delivery, Boise selected ToolsGroup and its SO99+ Inventory Optimizer as a core component of a new SIOP process to better control replenishment and safety stocks.

ToolsGroup’s SO99+ was deployed to capture daily sales history, extract replenishment parameters, set service-level constraints by class and calculate safety stock, supporting Boise’s product segmentation and SIOP planning. As a result, Boise reduced inventory by more than 20% (over twice the target), improved service level by three full points, moved to managing by service levels rather than inventory turns, sped up inventory projections and gained the ability to answer “what if” questions with confidence.
