Everlywell, an online health and wellness company that grew from about 80 to 1,000+ employees during the pandemic, faced a major testing and scalability challenge: developers needed safe, realistic copies of sensitive production data to build and validate features, but sandbox environments took up to 30 minutes to spin up and risked leaking PII/PHI. Tonic.ai automated Everlywell’s workflow—creating fresh RDS snapshots, using the Tonic API to synthesize data, validating results, and pushing pg_dumps to S3 so sandbox databases start instantly—enabling 50–100 concurrent sandboxes. The result: environment spin-up fell from ~30 minutes to under 5 minutes, releases accelerated from about once a day to 3–5 times per day (3x–5x), new hires were productive in their first week, and Tonic.ai replaced the need for 1–3 full-time DBAs, materially reducing cost and time-to-market.
