FXI launches FFP3 respirator mask with Tone Product Design

Tone Product Design was challenged by FXI to design a novel FFP3 respirator mask that would protect healthcare workers. The goal was to radically improve the user experience of wearing high-grade PPE by addressing common issues like poor breathability, discomfort during extended wear, and difficulty in communication, all while ensuring patient safety, affordability, and sustainability.

The solution implemented by Tone was the X-Mask, which features a soft silicone facepiece for an excellent seal and a large filter area for easier breathing. Key design details include detents for glasses and a semi-transparent facepiece to make the wearer look less intimidating. Tone's design is recyclable and underpinned by patented nanoparticle filter technology. After multiple rounds of prototyping and user testing in clinical environments, the product's benefits were confirmed and it is now ready for mass production.
