HELLA Aglaia needed to minimize the 'reality to map' (R2M) time for HD maps, a critical challenge for ensuring safety in automated driving systems, which requires maps to be constantly updated with the latest road changes. They partnered with vendor TomTom to address this need.
TomTom's solution integrated HELLA Aglaia's camera-based localization with TomTom's AutoStream and crowdsourced data. The process involved detecting road changes, sending them as Roadagrams to the TomTom cloud for processing, and then delivering updated HD maps back to vehicles. This collaboration resulted in faster, more accurate map updates, ultimately leading to safer automated driving by ensuring the maps accurately reflect real-world conditions.
