Case Study: Knoxville Raceway reduces cancellations and improves safety with Tomorrow.io MicroWeather Insights

A Tomorrow.io Case Study

Preview of the Knoxville Raceway Case Study

How Knoxville Raceway is Leveraging Tomorrow.io’s MicroWeather Insights

Knoxville Raceway, the “Sprint Car Capital of the World,” relies on precise weather information because its special dirt surface is highly sensitive to small amounts of precipitation and lightning threats. Before working with Tomorrow.io, Knoxville Raceway had to cancel four races in early 2019—losing tens of thousands of dollars in towing, sponsorship, staffing and marketing costs—and identified lightning forecasting as a persistent safety gap.

Tomorrow.io provided MicroWeather insights via its dashboard and customizable precipitation and lightning alerts, enabling Knoxville Raceway to identify a safe racing window on June 15, run most scheduled races, and evacuate the 22,000‑seat grandstand when unique lightning alerts arrived. Using Tomorrow.io’s forecasts reduced cancellations and delays, saved the track money, and improved safety for thousands of fans, drivers and crew.
