Toll Group worked with Transport of Recyclable Scrap Metal to solve the challenges of moving scrap metal between Tasmania and mainland Australia. The existing open-top containers created safety risks from wind-blown debris at sea, hazardous unloading for drivers, rollover risk on uneven ground, frequent container damage, and poor fleet efficiency because the containers could only be used for scrap metal and often returned empty.

Toll Group developed the “Scrap Box,” a purpose-built container with a removable hard top lid, floor discharge design, greater durability, and multi-purpose freight capability. The solution improved safety, reduced waste, and increased commercial value by allowing up to 45% more freight per container, while also removing more than 200,000 kilometres of truck movements from Tasmanian roads.
