The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) needed to recover the wreckage and remediate a helicopter crash site on the Indonesian island of Nias after a Sea King helicopter from HMAS Kanimbla crashed in April 2005. Under intense media scrutiny, the RAN turned to Toll Group for remote logistics support and movement control to manage the sensitive operation quickly and effectively.

Toll Group rapidly deployed experienced personnel, sourced helicopters, and managed procurement, local labour, food, provisions, and full movement support. Toll Group also carried out full site remediation, including radiation hazard testing, environmental surveying, burn-site stabilisation, excavation, and contaminated soil disposal, successfully completing the work within a short time frame and in line with the agreed Environmental Control and Occupational Health and Safety Plan.
