Offshore Petroleum Services (TOPS), a customer of Toll Group, needed a way to store 24,300-tonne reels of cable in Singapore, where space is extremely limited. The required 7,200 square metres of storage could not be accommodated at Toll’s storage yard, so the company needed an alternative temporary storage solution close to the customer’s base.

Toll Group solved the challenge by sourcing two barges capable of supporting the reels’ combined weight of more than 7,200 tonnes and using them as floating storage. The reels were crane-loaded, secured on the barges, and moored near the customer’s base for easy access; Toll Group stored and maintained the cargo for five months until it was needed, enabling the project to proceed without land-based storage constraints.
