Indonesia Transporting Company worked with Toll Group to move large volumes of bulk coal from shallow river jetties to deep water export ports in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The challenge was to expand marine logistics capacity so coal could be transported efficiently from mine sites to the North Pulau Laut terminal for loading onto ocean vessels.

Toll Group responded by developing a fleet of five specialised high-discharge vessels, including four tugs with self-discharging barges and one self-propelled, self-discharging barge. This solution enabled Indonesia Transporting Company to move around 5 million tonnes of coal per year, with each barge carrying about 8,000 tonnes per trip, discharging 2,500 tonnes per hour, and completing a six-hour port turnaround.
