D'Youville University stops a ransomware attack with Todyl and achieves zero confirmed exfiltration

D'Youville University, a small college in Buffalo, New York, faced significant cybersecurity challenges. Its network had grown organically over decades with multiple, partially implemented vendor products, leaving it without a dedicated security program to protect its sensitive data. CIO Joseph Gunnells engaged Todyl and their partner Whiteboard IT Solutions to implement a new security program, starting with Todyl's SIEM and MXDR services.

Just fifteen days into the proof of concept, Todyl's MXDR team detected and stopped a live ransomware attack in progress, providing complete visibility into the attack chain. The result was zero confirmed data exfiltration. Following the incident, the university fully adopted the Todyl platform, which also included SASE. This solution provided 90% operational continuity during a separate fiber outage and consolidated their security spend into one predictable platform at a fraction of their prior costs.
