Case Study: NSW Health Infrastructure creates more inclusive healthcare facilities with Today

NSW Health Infrastructure uses Today to co-design LGBTIQA+ inclusive hospital guidelines for hundreds of NSW facilities

NSW Health Infrastructure faced the challenge of creating public healthcare facilities that are inclusive for LGBTIQA+ communities. Their built environments were often perceived as inflexible and dehumanizing, exacerbating health challenges for these communities when seeking care. The vendor Today was engaged to address this through service design and co-design.

Today conducted a safe, trauma-informed co-design process with diverse LGBTIQA+ community members to develop a vision and principles for inclusive spaces. This work resulted in community-designed concepts that honor autonomy and fluidity. The research by Today will form the official LGBTIQA+ inclusive design guidelines for hundreds of public healthcare facility retrofits and new builds across NSW, transforming the healthcare experience for LGBTIQA+ people.
