City of Melbourne launches 21 accessibility initiatives with Today

The City of Melbourne engaged the vendor Today to address a significant urban accessibility challenge. While individual elements of the city had been made accessible, the council needed to deeply understand and map the holistic human experience of navigating the CBD for people with sensory disabilities.

Today's solution involved collaborative research and design with the blind, deaf, and deafblind communities. The vendor pivoted from the original app concept to create a scalable framework for designing with empathy, producing a design toolkit and methodology for the council. As a direct result of this work by Today, the City of Melbourne is launching twenty-one different initiatives to improve signage, wayfinding, and accessibility training.
