A TmaxSoft Case Study
Kela, the Finnish government social security agency, needed to modernize its aging mainframe environment. The system was costly to maintain, difficult to staff, and too inflexible to support Kela’s growing digital ambitions, especially with more than 10 million lines of PL/1 code that could not realistically be rewritten. TmaxSoft’s OpenFrame was chosen to help Kela preserve its existing applications while moving to a more modern platform.
Working with CGI, Kela used TmaxSoft OpenFrame to re-host its mainframe programs and databases onto a multi-tiered x86 environment without changing the underlying code. The migration delivered a smooth transition with no need to redevelop applications, reduced annual run costs by 75% from about €8 million to €2 million, and gave Kela the flexibility to build new online services and improve customer experience.
