Preview of the Overseas Coast Guard Case Study

Overseas Coast Guard rehosts and modernizes its legacy system with OpenFrame

Overseas Coast Guard, a government maritime safety and control agency, was struggling with a costly IBM mainframe that limited flexibility, performance, reliability, and efficiency across its fragmented, decentralized systems. The organization also needed to reduce maintenance and development costs and improve the user experience for its many operating stations. TmaxSoft’s OpenFrame legacy modernization and rehosting solution was selected to address these challenges.

TmaxSoft implemented OpenFrame to migrate resources to an open system, replace the proprietary mainframe environment, and modernize key applications, including a crime inquiry system. The project migrated hundreds of programs, converted 207 database tables and 80 files, and was completed in just five months. As a result, Overseas Coast Guard achieved high performance and stability, centralized monitoring and operations management, reduced TCO and maintenance costs, and improved ROI compared with the mainframe, all with minimal change to code and business logic.
