Maersk Building Insights into Supply Chains

Maersk, a provider of transportation and logistics services, faced the challenge of justifying the cost of tracking technology for its general cargo, which did not have the strict timelines of perishable or high-value goods. Partnering with vendor Tive, Inc., they sought to find a more affordable way to gain valuable insights to improve supply chain reliability for their customers without tracking every individual shipment.

Tive developed a proof of concept using aggregated data analytics from trackers placed on shipments. This approach revealed unexpected insights, such as a faster and more reliable trucking route, which was only identifiable by analyzing data from thousands of shipments together. The successful collaboration led Maersk to develop its new Ocean + Transload service, which provides customers with more precise transit times and advance alerts at no extra cost, significantly improving supply chain visibility and decision-making.
