Case Study: Situm achieves real-time geolocation analytics at scale with Tinybird

A Tinybird Case Study

Preview of the Situm Case Study

Situm relies on Tinybird to accelerate the speed of data processing and querying at scale

Situm, a provider of indoor tracking and navigation technology for more than 6,000 buildings worldwide, was struggling to keep up with rapidly growing geolocation data volumes. As its PostgreSQL and later MongoDB-based stack became harder to maintain, the team spent more time on database tuning and ETL work, slowing product development and making it difficult for customer support to explore data and answer tickets quickly.

By moving to Tinybird on AWS, Situm built real-time analytics and incremental materialized views for geospatial data, with Kafka-based ingestion lag reduced to less than a second. Tinybird enabled millisecond-latency exploration, on-the-fly reports on billions of geolocations, and simple API endpoint creation without complex pipelines or deep SQL knowledge, helping Situm cut engineering effort by 10x and process about 7TB of data per day.
