Blacksmith builds CI analytics in 2.5 weeks with Tinybird

Blacksmith, a startup providing faster continuous integration (CI) builds for GitHub Actions, faced a significant data challenge. They initially built their platform using Postgres but encountered poor analytics performance and the risk of impacting their production database. They needed a scalable solution for user-facing CI analytics but did not want to manage the complex infrastructure of a self-hosted analytics service like ClickHouse. This led them to adopt the Tinybird data platform.

By implementing Tinybird, Blacksmith used its Events API to ingest data and its Pipes to build and iterate analytical queries with SQL, which were then exposed as low-latency APIs. This solution enabled them to ship their first user-facing analytics feature in just two and a half weeks. The results were substantial: they achieved p95 latencies under 50 milliseconds, discovered that Tinybird was 30 times less expensive than their previous ETL setup, and expanded Tinybird's use to internal analytics and billing systems.
