A Tintri Case Study
Yavapai College, a community college serving more than 15,000 students across six campuses in Arizona, wanted to virtualize student desktops to improve access, security, and cost efficiency. However, its existing storage could not provide the performance or simplicity needed to support a large-scale VDI deployment with demanding applications like Photoshop and streaming video. Tintri’s VMstore was selected as the storage platform for the project.
Tintri implemented a flash-based Tintri VMstore T540 appliance to support VMware View linked-clone virtual desktops. The deployment was completed quickly and enabled Yavapai College to run more than 500 desktop VMs with performance to spare, while delivering a user experience on par with or better than physical desktops. The college also cut desktop costs to less than half the cost of physical desktops and greatly simplified day-to-day management with Tintri’s VM-level visibility and intuitive GUI.
