Sam M. Walton College of Business Chooses Tintri for Campus-Wide VDI Deployment

The Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas needed to expand its VMware View VDI deployment to give students, faculty, and staff remote access to campus labs and applications, but its existing EMC and Dell EqualLogic storage couldn’t deliver the IOPS and simplicity required. The college turned to Tintri to support its growing virtual environment and improve storage performance and management.

Tintri implemented two VMstore T540 arrays, which powered 400 virtual desktops and later consolidated the college’s production servers and 24 TB of data. With Tintri, the university cut VM deployment time from 20–30 minutes to about 3 seconds, reduced new VM provisioning from half an hour to seconds, and eliminated several hours of daily storage administration. Tintri also delivered storage at one-third the cost of alternatives and provided the visibility and performance needed for future VDI growth.
