A Tintri Case Study
Life-Science Innovations, a life sciences and engineering services company, was struggling with slow and unreliable storage performance in its mixed NetApp and VMware environment. As the company virtualized more workloads, including SQL Server and Exchange, the system couldn’t keep up, causing delayed updates, application slowdowns, and even periods when servers were unusable. Life-Science Innovations turned to Tintri and Microsoft Hyper-V to find a faster, simpler platform.
Tintri implemented two VMstore T820 systems, one at each datacenter, and LSI migrated all VMware and NetApp workloads to Tintri with Hyper-V. The result was dramatically better performance, full disaster recovery replication, and much simpler management, without sacrificing speed. Life-Science Innovations also reported major cost savings: the Tintri solution cost about a quarter of the proposed NetApp upgrade, cut rack space in half, and is expected to save at least $15,000 a year in consulting fees plus $30,000–$40,000 annually in VMware licensing costs.
