Colorcon Makes the Smart Move to Tintri Application-Aware Storage

Colorcon, a global pharmaceutical supplier, needed to replace an aging shared NetApp SAN that was difficult to administer, troubleshoot, and optimize for its VMware and nonvirtualized environments. Without a dedicated storage administrator, routine storage tasks were slow and risky, and the company also wanted better performance, lower support costs, and easier disaster recovery. Tintri’s VM-aware storage was selected for Colorcon’s VMware storage environment, using a Tintri VMstore T540 array.

Tintri implemented four Tintri VMstore T540 arrays with ReplicateVM, giving Colorcon storage that was simpler to manage and more closely aligned with virtual machines. The result was a 10x faster VM deployment process, with new VMs dropping from 20 minutes to 2 minutes, and over an hour per week saved on routine storage maintenance. Colorcon also reported much faster VM performance, easier replication between US and UK datacenters, and lower total cost—buying new Tintri systems with three years of support cost less than adding maintenance to the existing SAN.
