Centennial College Improves Virtual Desktop and Server Performance with Move to Tintri

Centennial College, a rapidly growing higher-education institution in Toronto, was running into serious IOPS and storage constraints as its VMware Horizon virtual desktop environment expanded to more than 600 desktops and virtual servers. The college needed a more powerful, easier-to-manage storage platform, and evaluated options including Tintri and all-flash systems to support its VDI and other mission-critical workloads.

Tintri implemented two Tintri VMstore systems for Centennial College’s VMware vSphere and VMware Horizon environment. The results were significant: virtual desktop and server workloads ran at least 3x faster, storage usage dropped from over 30TB to under 1TB through deduplication, and deployment time was cut in half. Centennial College also reported simpler storage management, better analytics, and proactive support from Tintri.
