How User-generated Content Drives Virtual Events and Builds Community

TINT by Filestack provided the user-generated content (UGC) tools that helped JVComms and the Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) quickly pivot their annual College Decision Day — normally held at the Apollo Theater — into a virtual celebration when the COVID-19 pandemic canceled in-person gatherings. The challenge was to recreate the live-event energy, aggregate congratulatory messages from students, families, partner organizations and celebrities across 20 college-access programs, and minimize the burden on already stretched nonprofit staff.

JVComms used TINT’s Experience Builder, hashtag aggregation (#DecisionDone, #CollegeBound) and direct-upload features to build CollegeDecisionDay.com, collect and showcase videos and posts, and host the livestream. The solution saved time and money, boosted participation (including celebrity shout-outs), and drove strong engagement — more than 1,000 visits and a 700% increase in video views versus 2019 — while creating a meaningful, community-driven celebration for college-bound students.
