NatWest needed to help its customers better understand and track their financial outgoings, as research showed many struggled with this key aspect of money management. To address this challenge, the bank partnered with vendor Tink to leverage its open banking technology.

The solution was the implementation of Tink's technology within NatWest's mobile app to build a Digital Spending Tool, which provided customers with categorized transactions, budgets, and personalized spending insights. The partnership was highly successful, with over 8.3 million customers using the feature. Tink's collaboration enabled the generation of 24 million insights within six months of a new feature launch, with over 25% of customers taking action on them. This innovation led NatWest to win the Celent Model Bank 2022 Award for Open Banking.
