Sentinel Marine Solutions - Customer Case Study

Sentinel Marine Solutions, a transportation company that provides maritime fleet management solutions, needed a scalable way to handle growing volumes of time-series telemetry alongside relational business and geospatial data. As their fleet expanded, PostgreSQL started showing degraded write performance and slow access to historical sensor data, and early attempts at tuning and trigger-based partitioning did not solve the issue. Sentinel turned to TimescaleDB to address these time-series database challenges.

Timescale implemented TimescaleDB, a PostgreSQL extension with hypertables and automatic chunking, enabling Sentinel to keep using SQL, Django, and PostGIS without reworking their stack. The result was a faster, more scalable architecture that unified customer, fleet, and location data in one system, improved developer productivity, reduced operational overhead, and supported growth past 5 TB of data while helping Sentinel ship new features more quickly.
