Case Study: Fairwinds extends data retention and improves Kubernetes cost analysis with TimescaleDB

A Timescale Case Study

Preview of the Fairwinds Case Study

Fairwinds simplifies Kubernetes management for enterprises by providing powerful cost analysis, security insights, and policy enforcement through a unified platform

Fairwinds helps enterprises manage Kubernetes clusters with a platform that tracks costs, improves security, and enforces consistent policies across applications. As its time-series data grew, the company’s PostgreSQL setup could only retain about two weeks of data, limiting visibility and making it difficult for customers to manage Kubernetes costs effectively.

By implementing TimescaleDB from Timescale, Fairwinds extended data retention from 14 days to more than 13 months while improving query performance and reporting efficiency. Timescale’s materialized views helped cut a large-customer load time from 10 seconds to 500 milliseconds, enabling faster cost analysis, quicker feature iteration, and reduced development time for new functionality.
