A Timely Case Study
FloatFix Dunedin was founded by Karl Bloxham, a strength and conditioning coach who introduced the city’s first float tank in 2016 to bring float therapy into sports recovery and rehabilitation. The main challenge was awareness and acceptance—floating was still seen as alternative, so Karl needed to demonstrate its practical benefits to athletes, clinicians and the wider community.
Partnering with physio Ash Stevens, FloatFix positioned floating as a complementary, holistic therapy for recovery, pain relief and mental well‑being. The centre quickly attracted a diverse client base—from pregnant mothers and chronic pain sufferers to professional rugby players (including All Black Malakai Fekitoa)—delivering noticeable improvements in recovery and relaxation and helping normalize float therapy in mainstream rehabilitation.
