A TigerGraph Case Study
OpenCorporates, the world’s largest open database of companies with records on more than 170 million firms, faced growing scalability and performance challenges as its data and investigative use cases expanded. To support complex, multi-hop investigative queries (e.g., degrees of separation, sibling and up-the-chain queries) and temporal or active-vs-dead relationship searches, OpenCorporates selected TigerGraph as its backend graph database and analytics platform.
TigerGraph implemented its native, parallel graph platform to power OpenCorporates’ backend, proving superior in benchmarks on a sample of 17 million nodes and 10 million edges on a single machine and delivering real‑time responses for up to five degrees of separation. The result for OpenCorporates is substantially reduced query time, better performance and the ability to run deeper, automated multi‑hop and temporal analyses — enabling faster, broader investigative workflows and uncovering hidden connections that support journalism and public‑interest investigations.
