A TigerConnect Case Study
Waterbury Hospital is a 357‑bed community and teaching hospital in Connecticut that cares for roughly 15,000 inpatients annually and handles large outpatient and ED volumes. After deploying TigerConnect for HIPAA‑compliant messaging, the hospital needed an easy way to route Cerner EHR lab, imaging and critical alerts to physicians’ mobile devices in real time (many of whom do not carry hospital beepers) to speed consults and avoid delayed care.
Waterbury integrated TigerConnect with its Cerner EHR, added an in‑EHR dropdown to opt results to mobile, and built rules (e.g., Do Not Disturb when off‑call) to automate secure alert delivery for consults, critical results, sepsis alerts and admissions. Adoption spiked, consult transcription time fell from 1 day 13 hours to 16 hours (a 21‑hour reduction), length of stay dropped nearly two days, and the hospital saved more than $2,208 per patient while improving care coordination and throughput.
