Time Management Critical for RWJBarnabas Health’s Substance Recovery Program Success

RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey’s largest health system with 11 acute care hospitals and a system-wide Peer Recovery Program, needed faster, more reliable ways to deliver time-sensitive substance use disorder interventions. Moving from per-case to full-time recovery specialists created higher call volume and a need to alert teams about new patients and readmissions while sharing timely patient information across sites.

By rolling out TigerConnect systemwide and fully integrating it with Cerner and Allscripts, RWJBH automated EHR triggers to identify eligible patients, surface appropriate workflows, and notify teams instantly. The platform cut response times to under 10 minutes, enabled seamless cross-site staffing and data access, and drove a large increase in referrals (reported as high as 24x), improving the speed and reach of recovery interventions.
