Case Study: Kainuu improves patient safety and speeds up laboratory sampling with Tietoevry’s Lifecare Mobile Sampling

The Lifecare Mobile Sampling mobile application has shortened response times and made laboratory on-call duty easier in Kainuu

The customer, NordLab Kainuu, the provider of laboratory services for the Kainuu wellbeing services county, faced a shortage of staff and relied on inefficient manual processes for recording data and handling sample queries by phone. To address this challenge, they partnered with vendor Tietoevry to implement the Lifecare Mobile Sampling mobile application.

The solution from Tietoevry enabled real-time patient identification, printing of sample labels, and immediate sample acknowledgement, with data pulled from the Lifecare system. This resulted in a significantly faster and more efficient workflow. The morning sampling ward round was sped up by about an hour, with samples now typically completed by 8:45 a.m. instead of 10 a.m. The application also improved patient safety through double identification and provided a clear overview of the sampling situation, allowing for better resource allocation.
