Case Study: HSB Living Lab advances connected beehive research with Tietoevry and AWS

HSB Living Lab and TietoEVRY are creating a network of connected beehives in public cloud!

HSB Living Lab, a research and demonstration arena focused on sustainable housing, partnered with vendor Tietoevry to tackle the challenge of monitoring bee health. Their goal for the BeeLab project was to create a network of connected digital beehives, which required a scalable, national, and global cloud environment to collect and manage the data.

The solution implemented by Tietoevry involved installing IoT gateways and sensors in the hives, which were then connected to a scalable Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. Tietoevry provided project management, development, and operational expertise. This allowed all hive data to be coordinated into the cloud and analyzed in real-time with AI, enabling researchers to gain a better understanding of bee communities and making it easier for beekeepers to monitor their hives.
