Wintershall Noordzee Turns Data into Self-service Insights for Operational Excellence

Wintershall Noordzee, a mid-sized North Sea oil and gas producer, was overwhelmed by fragmented data and outdated workflows—spreadsheets and physical reports—making it slow and costly to identify prime drilling locations and compete with larger operators. The company needed a central, searchable, self-service portal to unify seismic, well, logging and archival data so geologists and engineers could analyze dozens of variables quickly and independently.

Using TIBCO Spotfire, Wintershall built Crossfire—a self-service data exploration portal that consolidated multiple data sources and eliminated silos. The platform cut time spent gathering requested data from eight hours to nearly real time, freed analysts to spend more time on interpretation, increased transparency and discoveries, and set the stage for scaling with data virtualization and machine-learning/NLP projects like AMIE.
