Vestas, a 40-year leader in wind power with 57,000 turbines across 75 countries, faced a classic big-data challenge: thousands of sensors and a multi-petabyte wind-climate library producing massive, fast-moving data (about 30 GB/day) that needed to be integrated for predictive maintenance, accurate production forecasting, faster time-to-market, and better governance across global teams.

Vestas implemented an analytics platform centered on TIBCO Spotfire integrated with Hadoop/Spark, TERR/R, EMC Isilon and upgraded supercomputing resources, and launched an internal app store for self-service analytics. The proof-of-concept delivered 12 apps in under four weeks and the company now offers around 50 apps, analyzes 20–50 million rows routinely, supports ~1,000 business users, and has achieved faster customer answers, improved service and sales decision-making, and stronger control over model and app deployment.
