University of Washington Drives Microarray Analysis with Spotfire

The University of Washington’s Center for Expression Arrays supports large-scale gene expression research across yeast, mouse and human systems, but researchers struggled to manage and analyze massive, disparate microarray datasets. The CEA needed an easy-to-use, secure analytics environment that could handle preprocessing, clustering and statistical tests, integrate with existing in‑house and commercial databases, and serve over 100 occasional and regular users campus‑wide.

UW deployed Spotfire DecisionSite for Functional Genomics, using its data‑integration and visualization capabilities plus a Developer toolkit to build custom Guides and access controls and to link two‑way with Resolver for large‑scale data management. The result: DecisionSite became the lab standard, cutting the learning curve, automating repetitive workflows, bridging incompatible formats and enabling deeper, more consistent microarray analysis across the university.
