TIBCO Moves Lufthansa Cargo from a Legacy System to a Flexible Future

Lufthansa Cargo, the airfreight subsidiary of Deutsche Lufthansa, faced a growing IT challenge: decades of disparate systems had created a complex “spaghetti” architecture centered on a legacy host application (MOSAIK), making development slow and expensive and hampering process optimization, time-to-market and routine tasks like order entry and billing.

Lufthansa implemented TIBCO’s enterprise application integration (EAI) platform—using the TIBCO Information Bus as a shared integration layer plus workflow and web‑services support—after a proof‑of‑technology trial. The approach simplified interfaces, connected Siebel and other systems (with SAP and MOSAIK planned), and delivered lower operating and development costs, faster processes and product rollout, and greater flexibility for integrating customers’ and partners’ systems.
